I have ADD, and one of my personal traits related to it is hyperfocus, and it’s both blessing and curse. At times I can focus all of my energy and attention on one thing for hours without variation. It’s particularly helpful at work, and when I’m working on a freelance project. Unfortunately I can’t help when it kicks in, which seems to happen whenever I get a little stressed, or a little burned out.

As a seminary student I have an unconscionable amount of reading. For two classes (of four) this semester I have to read Genesis through Deuteronomy along with a book called Handbook on the Pentateuch, Psalms, Ruth, Ephesians, Philippians, Romans, and some other epistles, along with commentary articles for each, and  And I Will Praise Him. I have two other classes with their own requirements totaling 7 books. So it was truly visionary thinking to add the expectation of reading and reviewing 52 books this year. After finishing book 7 I hit a wall, and comforted myself by building a championship team on NBA 2K10, and beating both Assassin’s Creed and Army of Two: The 40th Day.

I also discovered XBMC and Handbrake, two phenomenal open apps, and have been converting my DVD collection to a digital library. Needless to say, I fell a bit behind. Now I’m hoping to get back on track. But this time I think I’ll take it a little slower, and leave some time to cool down between books so I don’t flame out again. Book 8, coming at the end of the weekend, I hope, is Teaching as a Subversive Activity.
