Early last year a friend recommended The Making and Unmaking of Technological Society, by Auburn poli-sci professor Murray Jardine, saying, “[It's] one the most influential books on my thinking about society, culture, and technology.” It’s had a profound effect on my thinking as well, particularly on my awareness of some basic assumptions I make from day to day.

This book is an in-depth discussion of the development of Western culture, and how we have come to what Neil Postman describes as “technopoly”, a society that is so dominated by the influence of technology that ethics and morality change to accommodate technological advancement. Heady stuff, and very enlightening.
